Day 1: Departure
Alter do Chão – Canal do Jari
Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Alter do Chão, heading by boat to the Canal do Jari, a stunning waterway nestled between the Tapajós River and the Amazon rainforest.
This tranquil channel winds through lush varzea (flooded forests) teeming with wildlife. Here, you’ll encounter iconic Amazonian bird species such as the Hoatzin, Wattled Jacana, Black-collared Hawk, Amazon Kingfisher, and the vibrant Scarlet Macaw. The canal’s rich ecosystem offers a chance to spot sloths, river dolphins, and caimans as well.
Enjoy a guided exploration, followed by your first night’s accommodation in a comfortable riverside lodge, complete with a local dinner under the stars.
Day 2:
Meeting of the Waters & Mica Lakeaster Tours
After breakfast, depart Canal do Jari and journey by boat to the stunning Meeting of the Waters, where the Tapajós and Amazon Rivers flow side by side without mixing immediately, a unique natural spectacle. This area teems with birdlife including the Black-collared Hawk, Large-billed Tern, and Swallow-tailed Kite, providing excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography.
